Welcome to billandiris.com v.2 I started this little website when when we purchased our first digital camera in 2003 as a way of posting some of our photos. Since then it’s become a clearing house for bill’s rants and a repository of over 1500 images spanning 5 years of our lives.

My initial website was based on phpNuke but it was subject to a lot of hacker attacks and just to difficult to keep updated.  So in 2008 I ripped out the whole thing and started fresh with Wordpress.  I’m still learning WP but at least it’s stable and the anti-spam tools seem to keep the comment spam away.  (And yes, all comments are moderated and require approval but I will post them if they aren’t spam)

I’m ex-military now working as a computer systems engineer on oil tankers.  Iris has her Masters in Community Counseling and is a full-time telecommuter for one of the largest health care companies in the U.S.  We bought our first house together in March of 2008 and have been busy making it our own.

We have two kids, Will (2004) and Lily (2006).  They’re great kids and we can’t imagine our lives without them.  Will is named after his paternal grandfather (as I was named after mine) and Lily was named after her maternal great-grandmother.  I commonly call Lily ‘Lily-bug’ hence the image of the Lilioceris lilii on our website.

I’m pretty much the sole editor and contributor to this site which is mainly targeted to our friends and family; our respective families all live east of the Rockies and our parents east of the Mississippi.  You’ll find a ton of pictures and a number of my rants.    Speaking of rants, I mostly blog about Islam, Global Warming, and liberalism.  I’m a classical neo-conservative (and trust me, you don’t know what neo-cons are).  I sometimes take a little data and form my own opinions so please don’t read everything I write as the holy gospel.  The views I express are my own and are limited by my bias and interest.  Most importantly I hope to expose people to things that Kattie Couric isn’t telling them and I lift heavily from other blogs and sources occasionally forgetting to site them (sorry).
